Handwriting-to-Text vs OCR: What Is the Difference?

OCR is a broad term for extracting text from images. Handwriting-to-text may recognize photographed writing or digital pen strokes. The input source changes both the likely errors and the best correction workflow.

Camera OCR starts with an image

The recognizer must handle lighting, perspective, paper texture, and handwriting at the same time. Image quality is therefore part of the accuracy problem.

Digital ink starts with pen strokes

A stylus workflow can preserve stroke information and avoid camera artifacts. Recognition can still struggle with rushed writing, symbols, and unfamiliar vocabulary.

Choose based on where the note already lives

Scan existing paper. Draw new spatial notes. Type precise text. A mixed-input system avoids converting material just to satisfy the app.
